I didn't check or stamp planners today because we had to get outside to enjoy this beautiful day! Tomorrow morning I will check to make sure you copied the assigned work and have the rough draft completed for Kindergarten Round-up.

So you should have finish packet, reread story, and Think Critically written in the Language Arts box.

For math, you need 14.3 for sure but may have 14.4 and 14.5 (skip 1-3 on the RW side and 6-10 on the PW side.)

In the social studies box, you should have Dear John letter (your brother in England who is thinking about moving to Jamestown in 1600's - not a break-up letter.)

This has been a crazy week with Halloween and Grandfriend's day as bookends! The work though as been the normal stuff. Nothing out of the ordinary. Thank your parents if they helped you with page 41 in the reading packet. I didn't get to it so I said it could be skipped. We are going to have a grammar make up week pretty soon so we don't get too far behind!!

It seems like I have had something going on everyday this week! Sorry for missing the updates on here! Most of the planners have been pretty thorough so hopefully you didn't have questions.

Reading packets and spelling corrections need to be turned in. My group will have a little bit of time to finish up their timelines tomorrow so if you brought them home - work on them as much as you can! If you didn't finish your Think Critically, I posted the questions in an Edmodo assignment.

Whew - What a day!

In reading we copied our spelling words into our planners and everybody finished!!!! We worked on our Word Study Boxes for averted, fury, interrogation, stern, accusing, solemnly, cringed, and craned. Many even had time to start the spelling pages of the reading packet!

We also wrote poems in media, checked out books, and had a character education class with Mrs. Swanson. This Friday she want kids to be in a picture, so wear your spirit wear and stand up against bullies!!!

In math we took the practice test for chapter 3. Borrowing and regrouping is still kind of rusty for some of us. Hopefully it won't be on the test tomorrow!

Work Assigned today...

Reading - I enjoyed reading today! The story notes (doodles) were awesome! Kids did a great job as we listened a second time to our story. I am also seeing much better responses to the Think Critically questions at the end of the story.

Math - I didn't enjoy math today! Not because of the kids but because the lesson confuses more than it helps. Remember - strategies are meant to help you do something easier or quicker. If the strategies shared today don't do that DON'T USE THEM!!! If you need to use the strategy that lines up the problem - USE THAT! The last thing I want is for you to be too confused to do math that I know you are good at! So, for 3.1 both sides - just solve the problem any way you know how!

Social - we did the preview to chapter 2.

Instead of a social test, make sure you hand in the artifacts sheet. I am working on uploading your videos explaining the different social sciences.

We took our NWEA Reading test today and it interrupted finishing the packet. So remember to do the first four and the last four pages and turn it in!

Math - practice test - parents are encouraged to look over the test to see what is wrong and help fix it or if it is something you would like me to help with - send me a note! Not much new today- we didn't get to all the pages of the packet so we will see what we get to tomorrow. We did have a practice test for spelling today. Anyone that got 100% doesn't have to redo it on Friday. Anyone that got words wrong has to rewrite the word 5 time correctly.

For math we practiced for the chapter test tomorrow. Place value and value is still confusing a few, hopefully we found some ways to help remember the difference for the test!

Work Assigned Today...
Mondays are a big day for work assigned - it is kind of confusing too. On Monday I have the kids copy the spelling words into their planners hand out the reading packet for the week but only ask that students complete the last four pages (spelling practice pages.) I also assign the vocabulary words in the Word Study Boxes booklet that go with the story for the week. This week we had 6 words - pact, foisted, annoyed, queasy, venture, and depriving. The reading packet and Word Study Boxes are due at the end of the day on Thursday. I do allow time to work on most of these activities in class.

In math we worked on 1.3 both sides. Because of the assembly, there wasn't a lot of time to work together so if you are struggling, let me know.

I had the best morning we
* went outside to listen and look for evidence of summer bugs
* performed as a buggy orchestra
* got to use the mobile lab
* set up accounts in Edmodo

As for work we created personal mandalas which need to be ready for mounting tomorrow and we did lesson 1.2 in math. Thanks Jack for helping show others how to answer question 9 and 10 - they were tough!

Work Assigned today...
Today we worked on writing Summer Reflections. Each student had to tell about 2 things that were memorable from their summer. Each student needed to finish copying their final draft so we can put it all together tomorrow.

In Math we started Chapter 1 on Place Value. The assignment was to do 1.1 both sides. We discussed how pages and lessons are label and what "1.1 both sides" actually means. If you see a check mark, star, happy face, etc. next to an assignment, it means it was completed here at school. I'm attaching the Slideshare of the packet if you would like to look at it or make a copy if you need a new one.

Students should have brought home a yellow half sheet of paper explaining the Entertainment books. I got to wear 3 of the Converse tennis shoes today on a lanyard - they are really cool!!!

I can't believe how fast this day went! I think this was the best first day ever! We had great discussions on our hopes and dreams. If you didn't bring one in please do so as quick as you can. I want to put them up to remind us of what we hope to accomplish and how we are going to help make it happen for everyone else in our room.

This use to be my favorite day as a kid. You couldn't get any farther away from school starting.

Now, it is kind of a sad day. I will miss every 4-1 student for a long time!

This has been kind of a hard year for me personally but I have had some of the most supportive students, colleagues, and parents that anyone could every dream of and I am forever grateful. I am looking forward to starting back already. (You can call me crazy, but it's true.) I have started so many thoughts over the last week with "Next year..." So, until next year, have an amazing summer, make lots of great memories, don't forget to send me a message on Edmodo, and read tons of great books.

Drop off your bags at the bus (or outside under the awning if the bus isn't there)
Bring your Money and Meds (if you need any) to the gym to give to your group leader
Get your sweatshirt, water bottle, and disposable camera!! (Put on your sweatshirt, remember to use your camera wisely, fill your water bottle, use the bathroom)

Get on the right bus (Groups A, B, C on the first one and Group D and F on the second bus) We will take attendance on the bus too.
You can have a backpack for the bus with a book, sketch pad, pencils, pens and pillow. Remember NO food or electronic games. There will be movies for entertainment. We will provide a snack on the bus and be at Wolf Ridge in time for lunch!
How much you get out of your trip depends on how much you put into it. Plan on participating, encouraging, learning, and making memories!!!
